Art is not decoration. It is how I acknowledge pain, and get past it.
Marco Scola paints the human face and the human figure — saints, strangers, and the people he goes dancing with. Primitive and tribal on one side, avant-garde and abstract on the other, and Berlin somewhere in the middle.

Matribal — the winter pop-up shop.
Upcycling art & fashion
Recycled material turned into one-off garments, and jewellery made to be worn as work. Scola has an eye for the style people are not using yet: the shop is a place to experiment and leave with a new wardrobe, not with a few tips.
- Where
- Niederbarnimstraße 21, Berlin-Friedrichshain
- When
- Open every year from mid-October to mid-March.

Marco Scola
Marco Scola is the artist behind Matribal. He comes from Catania in Sicily. He studied architecture first, then moved to Rome and took a BA in Visual Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts.
He has been part of Berlin’s underground art scene since 2007. He lives and works at Atelier Attico, the last occupied flat in an emptied-out old building in Kreuzberg — and that building is part of what the paintings are about.
